Facebook Status Reflects Who We Are

Facebooking is fun! I spend most of my online social times on Facebook as it is currently the only platform where I can easily get in touch with most of my friends, acquaintances, blog readers as well as my customers who communicate with me through private messaging.

I am rather careful though, with the kind of status message I share on my pages.  For a start, I think people would generally respond to specific happy posts, the funny ones and sometimes the sad disappointing ones. However, if there are one too many repeated posts on the same negative feelings from the same person time and again, I will be sorely put off. Sorry, but its the truth.

It is one thing to share and update about our lives with friends on Facebook, but it is another when all one does is post up sorry, crabby moments every other hour. Though there are certainly no boundaries about sharing our pesky, malicious or peeved thoughts about an encounter we've had but surely we should know our limits?

Facebook is certainly not an open diary though there are times when I may share displeased thoughts but I think what makes a difference is the way we express ourselves and choice of words.

As much as I can, I will keep negative or angry feelings to myself. If I need to vent, I would usually share it with friends over a private chat, just to get it off my chest.

Rule of thumb : it's not nice to air your dirty laundry in public, especially if it concerns the family.

It just wouldn't do anyone any good and reflects poorly of oneself.

There is already too much gloom in this world. If we have to share a status on Facebook, surely we can post a happy and positive note for all to share the good vibes.

What's In Your Bag?

Some men don't understand why some women carry big bags. We lug our large totes around like as though good enough for a day trip! Some women carry A LOT of stuff inside while others seem to carry a big bag to make a fashion statement with very little content in the bag. I am guilty of carrying more than one bag sometimes and keep a shopping bag within a bag. *And the men don't exactly get it.

 

 So what's in my bag, you ask? These are what I have!

Brown makeup pouch
which looks a tad old-lady looking. Ok need to upgrade my pouch. Only thing I like about it is its waterproof.

Dome voucher envelope
with the discount card still inside and 1 expired voucher. Almost 10 months old.

A box of Ricola sweets
Make that melted sweets. ewww.

Foldable starry shopping bag
Love it to bits.

Wet Wipes by Watsons
This one is a must have. Cos I can be OCD like that to my kids. :p

A shawl
in case I get too cold in a mall or if the hubs decide to catch a movie. It can keep 2 persons warm.

A bagful of beads
my friend's 8 year old daughter passed to me to help her repair her bracelet! Yikes! I totally forgot.

Coffee Art, Anyone?

I was spurred to try out coffee art since I make latte for the hubs and I on most mornings and especially after getting a milk frother not too long ago.  So here's my amateuristic journey in pictures so far!

 See top left : that's my very first "accidental" tryout which spurred me to try a little better on my next cuppa. If you can't tell, it's supposed to be a rabbit but because of that bubble there, it looked like the rabbit had a boil on it's face! I then went on to make a heart shape, a bear shape and a flower!

I guess this is one of the better turnout! I couldn't decide if it was a birdie or a duck but a few instagram followers says its the latter. Ok I admit I cheated a bit here. I used my spoon to help me with neatening the edges.

THEN! I was inspired to use chocolate sauce for art after a conversation about coffee art in a Singapore Mom Bloggers private chat! I figure I should be able to do a more refined piece of "art" on my coffee than just relying on the froth alone. I think that takes tremendous skill.

 And these ladies and gentlemen, is only the beginning of my coffee art journey! I think ah, my hubs is amused to see these designs I come up with when he comes back from sending kids to school in the morning. He "rolls eyes" at me but does put a goofy smile on his face.  Priceless!

When Your Husband Has A Car, The Wife Should Learn To Drive

Never ever never ever ever, did I imagine I would be a driver. From young, my slogan was "I will always be the one chauffeured around". I wouldn't even think it possible picturing myself to be behind the wheels.

I remember one day 11 years ago, when I was having a casual conversation with the hubs, he asked me :

"What if one day, I fall terribly ill in the middle of the night and I can't drive myself to the hospital?"

That got me motivated to learn driving almost in an instant because this kind of scenario is very real. It got me thinking that surely, I can be relied upon in time of such needs especially when it's was just us and my toddler son living together.

Confession : I failed basic theory FOUR times.

I failed advance theory TWICE.

However, I am very thankful that I was able to get my license on my first test within a period of about 6 months. I remember the first person I called was my dad. And I told him, "there's a new hell driver on the loose!" Even though I couldn't see, I could feel him beaming with pride over the phone.

Yes, the other reason. SHOPPING! :p

So to all the wives out there, it's never too late to learn to drive especially if your husband already owns a car. It is one of the most useful skills in life.

And not forgetting, you will enjoy some "me time" while at it. :p

Super Powers All Mothers Should Possess

The role of a mother is endless. Thanks to our maternal instinct and multi-tasking skill, we do what we must and hardly expect anything in return. We fight, defend and cry alongside our children. It's a unique role that cannot be replaced.

But none of us is perfect. Mothers also face burn out situations when everything seems overwhelming and it is then that we sometimes wish we possess a supernatural power that can help us overcome our challenges.

Here at Singapore Mom Bloggers, we are no ordinary moms. We fantasize being even faster than a speeding child! More powerful than a vacuum cleaner! Able to leap big piles of laundry in a single bound! It's... it's...

When 'Sorry' Is Loosely Used

Me (eating alone at a food court) : *nom nom nom*

A blue collared worker walked past my table.

Just when the spoonful of rice went into my mouth, she stood next to me.

"Sorry. Sorry. Can I take this chair?"

I couldn't stop to answer her yet there she was waiting for me to respond.

I didn't want to just do a hand signal that it was okay to take the chair because it just seemed rude to respond that way. And she certainly didn't seem she could wait for me to chew and swallow my food to answer her proper.

So, I chose to nod my head instead.

"Sorry, sorry," she went again.

I'm pretty sure many Singaporeans are familiar with this scenario and some of us, even guilty of "apologizing" for something not at all wrong.

Perhaps she felt bad to interrupt my meal but it still doesn't warrant an apology because she did nothing wrong.

So let's not use 'sorry' too loosely with people. 'Sorry' is an expression of regret, having done something wrong or saying it to someone over a sense of loss. It definitely holds deeper meaning.

That being said, we should also learn to express our 'thank yous' more too. That will be better appreciated when others do nice things for you. It will simply make someone's day. Don't you think? :)

Why Husbands Should Spoil Their Wives

A week ago, I attended a secondary school gathering. At some point, I managed to catch up with some of the guys in the group and we chatted casually about married life.

3 of them lamented that they spoil their wives.
 
No.1 guy said :
By being the baddie parent. Taking charge of punishing his children when the wife asks him to.

No.2 guy said :
By doing the laundry and washing the dishes.

No.3 guy said :
By doing EVERYTHING in the house. She doesn't need to lift her fingers.

 

"That's good!" was my first spoken reaction to them. By their looks, my response didn't seem to go down too well with them.

So here's why I think it's really nice and really okay to spoil your wives, at least in the home front.

Number 1

When the husband takes care of disciplinary actions of the children means less wrinkles on the wife's face thus no need for botox sooner than you expect! You can save yourself some cash.

Number 2

Doing the laundry is the least a husband could help with. 

If on average, laundry is done 3 times a week :  

Out of the 7 days - which is 168 total hours, 

you spend a total of 15 minutes sorting the clothes into the washing machine, 

wait 4.5 hours with a coffee break while the clothes is in the washer and 

another 40 minutes to hang them up. What is the total time taken?

(hey! potential math problem sum question here!)

That's ONLY a total of 5 hours 41 minutes a week, as opposed to women carrying babies in their tum tum for 9 months for each child, the number of hours in labor or the pain we have to go through after C-section and the postpartum weight we have to bear. Truly I say, those hours spent at laundry, pales in comparison.

Number 3

Doing the dishes should come naturally for everyone, not only for the men. But when the men wash after yourselves at each meal, you are setting a wonderful example for the kids to follow suit. Not only will your wives will be thankful, but the next generation wives' will think their father-in-laws are awesome role models. That's killing two birds with one stone!

Number 4 

Doing everything thing else like cooking a meal, making the bed and sweeping the floor are bonuses. Does the term "score points" ring a bell?

Building and keeping a home takes 2 hands to clap. It is a responsibility between spouses, not just the wives alone.  No matter how small a chore you can takeover from your wives today, I am pretty sure she will be grateful and think the world of you. These little acts shows her and your children that you care for her and the family. It is priceless.

To the men who are already helping out with chores at home, you are doing a great job! I salute you!

For the record, my husband helps me with the laundry when he is not travelling, for which I am very grateful too! *muacks* Now, if only he will take over the cooking...
