I hope it has been a good start to the year for you as it has been for my jewelry crafting pursuit, so far. Orders had started streaming in during the first day when I officially started taking in custom orders for the year. My work book is starting to fill up and I can't help but feel a sense of wonderment and gratefulness toward how my love for creating jewelry has led me this far. I like being "creatively" busy!

The past 2 weeks, I've been quite up to my neck taking in orders for the Chinese New Year - mostly to make a matchy accessory for their cheong-sams. I've always admired women who can pull off pretty cheong-sams. Especially those that are modernized with contemporary colors and designs. So I'm really pleased to have made some creations catered to match with their dresses. Coffee Art, Anyone?

I was spurred to try out coffee art since I make latte for the hubs and I on most mornings and especially after getting a milk frother not too long ago.  So here's my amateuristic journey in pictures so far!

 See top left : that's my very first "accidental" tryout which spurred me to try a little better on my next cuppa. If you can't tell, it's supposed to be a rabbit but because of that bubble there, it looked like the rabbit had a boil on it's face! I then went on to make a heart shape, a bear shape and a flower!

I guess this is one of the better turnout! I couldn't decide if it was a birdie or a duck but a few instagram followers says its the latter. Ok I admit I cheated a bit here. I used my spoon to help me with neatening the edges.

THEN! I was inspired to use chocolate sauce for art after a conversation about coffee art in a Singapore Mom Bloggers private chat! I figure I should be able to do a more refined piece of "art" on my coffee than just relying on the froth alone. I think that takes tremendous skill.

 And these ladies and gentlemen, is only the beginning of my coffee art journey! I think ah, my hubs is amused to see these designs I come up with when he comes back from sending kids to school in the morning. He "rolls eyes" at me but does put a goofy smile on his face.  Priceless!

How To Cook The Perfect Steak

I miss the steak I've had during our recent trip to Sydney. The tenderness, juiciness and natural flavor was too good to be true. So, I tried to re-create the dish at home 2 nights ago and followed the tips on this leaflet which I picked up from the butcher.

On the sides, we had home made mashed potatoes and baked button mushrooms with garlic toppings.

 Not as successful as I wanted it to be though it looked perfect! I even had to grill mine a second time after slicing my steak because it was too bloody for me. My husband thought his piece to be perfectly cooked medium rare. I wished mine was wagyu steak!

The kids had chicken chop because they are not that into beef yet.

Our meal at home cost us no more than $30. Slaving in the kitchen for this was worth the while after seeing the smiles on all of their faces and them boasting about it in instagram. There is something about men and beef, isn't it? Because I sure made mine happy.

With all that's being said and eaten, I think I'll have my steak cooked and served at a specialty restaurant the next time if I have the craving again. So I can escape cleaning up the grease in my kitchen.
